Statement Regarding Acquisitions of Capital District and Doctors Ambulance Services.

Mohawk Ambulance Service finalized and entered into an agreement this week to acquire the operations of Capital District Ambulance Service and Doctors Ambulance Service. We believe that it was in the best interest of the families of the former founders of Capital District Ambulance Service and Doctors Ambulance Service to sell their assets to preserve the reputation and good will of both companies. While the necessary regulatory approvals for this sale are being obtained, Mohawk Ambulance Service’s staff will assist Capital District Ambulance Service and Doctors Ambulance Service to continue their provision of services. All former staff of Capital District and Doctors Ambulance are encouraged to apply at Mohawk Ambulance Service.

Founded in 1964, Mohawk Ambulance Service is the largest, privately-owned ambulance service in upstate New York. With more than 40 ambulances and emergency response vehicles, Mohawk Ambulance Service provides Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support services to the counties of Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer and Saratoga.

June 2, 2017 Update: Mohawk Ambulance Service Responds to the Investigation by Schenectady County Officials

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – It has been reported to Mohawk Ambulance Service that the investigation of the one-car accident on May 24, 2017 by the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office is now complete.

“This was a terrible and unfortunate accident and we can’t express enough how deeply saddened we are. We continue to pray for the family of Mr. Aernecke and offer our sincerest condolences in their time of grief,” said James P. McPartlon, president, Mohawk Ambulance Service.

Mohawk Ambulance Service has fully cooperated with investigators and provided all information in its possession which has been requested by the Sheriff’s Office. In more than 50 years of serving the Capital Region, this is the first incident of this nature to occur involving one of its service vehicles.

At Mohawk Ambulance Service, patient care and safety take priority. The EMT driving the rig was eight hours into a 12-hour shift at the time of the incident, following 14 hours off. The EMS industry is a 24-hour service, and 12-hour shifts are common practice nationwide. The two-person crew involved in the accident last week was engaged in its fifth call of the day.

Mohawk Ambulance Service Vehicle Involved in Accident in Duanesburg

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Just after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, one of our vehicles was involved in an accident while transporting a patient along Western Turnpike in Duanesburg. Our vehicle went off the road while traveling eastbound, striking a tree. Following this accident, the patient being transported tragically passed away.

“On behalf of Mohawk Ambulance Service and all of our employees, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family in this very difficult time,” said James P. McPartlon, III, president, Mohawk Ambulance Service. “Safety and patient care remain our top priority and we commit to holding our employees to the highest standards. We are working in full cooperation with law enforcement and together our agencies are investigating what happened surrounding this terrible event.”

The two Mohawk Ambulance employees in the vehicle at the time of the accident are currently being treated for injuries also sustained as a result of the accident. Their identities and condition will not be released. Please note that due to HIPAA regulations, we cannot release any information regarding the patient involved.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. this evening (May 24, 2017), one of our ambulances was involved in an accident while transporting a patient along Western Turnpike in Duanesburg. We are cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate. We will release further information as it becomes available.

(UPDATE) We have learned that the patient being transported by our ambulance involved in the accident this evening in Duanesburg has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and we offer our heartfelt condolences in this very difficult time.

Mohawk Ambulance Service Training Staff Receives “Educators of Excellence” Award

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Mohawk Ambulance Service, the largest privately-owned ambulance service in upstate New York, is proud to announce that its Training Center staff has received the “Educators of Excellence” Award presented by the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of the Hudson-Mohawk Valley (REMSCO). The team consists of Jeff Williams, Ed Marchand, Judyth Tiffany, Robert Panarese, Laura Young, James McCredie, Eve Aragona, Emily Peters, Alex Downey and the late Richard Beebe.

Mohawk Ambulance Service offers a number of training opportunities to caregivers and medical professionals, including CPR, ACLS, PALS and other American Heart Association courses, NAEMT courses including AMLS, PHTLS and EPC and New York State Emergency Medical Technician Original and Recertification Training. The company frequently provides both Basic and Advanced Life Support Continuing Education training and lecture programs throughout the Capital Region.

In 2016, Mohawk introduced a free EMTMohawk Training Staff training course as a way of recruiting new talent into the EMS field. The five-month course is offered twice annually and has added some talented certified emergency medical professionals to the EMS community. The latest course is currently underway and runs through June with another slated to begin shortly thereafter.

“Our training group does a phenomenal job with all of the classes they provide. I am particularly impressed by their teamwork and ingenuity, as well as their creativity and passion with which they approach the EMT classes,” said James P. McPartlon, III, president, Mohawk Ambulance Service. “This award selection reflects the dedication and hard work our staff invests in all of its programming.”

The award will be officially presented at the annual Regional EMS Awards dinner which will be held October 15 in Saratoga Springs. The regional winners are also in contention for the state award presented by the New York State Emergency Medical Services Council at the NYS Vital Signs Conference in Rochester October 25-29, 2017.

Two Mohawk Ambulance Service Employees Honored with Stars of Life Awards

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Two Mohawk Ambulance Service employees are being honored this year by the American Ambulance Association (AAA) with the Star of Life Medal, the highest award that an emergency medical service worker can receive. Cheryl Schweinsburg and Jason Billington will be among the 80 EMS workers from around the country to receive the recognition at the Association’s 18th annual event held in Washington, D.C. June 12 – 14.

AAA represents hundreds of ambulance services across the United States which provide emergency and non-emergency care and medical transportation to more than 75 percent of the U.S. population. The Association’s annual Stars of Life Awards publicly recognize and celebrate the achievements of its members.

Schweinsburg first entered the field as an EMT in 2006 and four years later Stars of Lifereceived her certificate in paramedicine. She joined Mohawk Ambulance as a paramedic in February 2016. Schweinsburg has been recognized by her peers and supervisors as a “lead by example” role model who consistently maintains a positive attitude and commitment to patient care. In less than one year of employment, Schweinsburg earned Mohawk Ambulance’s Distinguished Service Award.

Billington joined Mohawk Ambulance as an EMT in July 2012. He proved himself to be a vital asset through hard work and dedication, and was promoted to Driver, Field Training Officer and Driver Trainer. Billington has received two Distinguished Service Awards in his less than five years with the team. He plans on obtaining his paramedicine certificate in the near future.

“As indicated by their past accolades, Cheryl and Jason exemplify Mohawk Ambulance’s continued commitment to care and service,” said James P. McPartlon III, president of Mohawk Ambulance Service.  “We are extremely proud of both of them and congratulate them on this special achievement.”

Schweinsburg and Billington join 13 other Mohawk Ambulance servicemen and women who are Stars of Life recipients. Other past award winners include first responders who served following the September 11th attacks, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, and other national disasters.

Mohawk Ambulance Service Adds EMTs Through Free Training Program

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Mohawk Ambulance Service announces the hiring of eight Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), graduates of the company’s most recent EMT training program. The 5-month course, which is administered twice annually, is free of charge to applicants, making it possible for a candidate to become certified without having to make a $1,000 personal investment. Traditional EMT training programs can cost upwards of $700 for the course and another $250 to cover costs associated with books and materials.

Mohawk Ambulance started offering the program in 2016 as a way of recruiting new talent into the EMS industry.  Since the inception of the course, Mohawk Ambulance has started to integrate some of its orientation process into the EMT program, streamlining the onboarding and training process and placing skilled medical providers in the field more efficiently. These eight graduates represent the second class to complete the program. Combined, the first two course offerings produced 13 certified EMTs.

Prospective course participants are first interviewed, then partake in a physical agility test, and finally are enrolled in an AHA Professional CPR Course.  Mohawk Ambulance utilizes information obtained during these three screening tools to ensure the EMT course candidate is a good fit for a career as an EMT and a good fit for Mohawk Ambulance. Those who are accepted into the course are enrolled in the program which combines classroom learning with hands-on and in-field instruction. The class meets an average of twice per week, one classroom instruction and one in-field instruction session per week. The final step to graduation is the successful completion of the New York State Department of Health’s Practical and Written Emergency Medical Technician Exam.

Mohawk Ambulance is currently administering its first course offering of 2017, which runs through June 15. Interested applicants wishing to take part in the fall/winter course can complete an online application starting in July. Specific dates for this course have yet to be announced.
