Mohawk Ambulance Service Promotes 11 to Rank of Supervisor

Mohawk Ambulance Service is proud to announce the promotion of 11 employees to the position of supervisor. Supervisors provide field leadership and guidance to EMS personnel at Mohawk Ambulance’s six stations throughout the Capital Region, while also performing EMT responsibilities, facilitating internal communication, staff scheduling, and equipment and supply maintenance.

Two Mohawk Ambulance Service Employees, Paramedic and Business Office Manager, Honored with Stars of Life Awards

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Mohawk Ambulance Service is proud to announce that two of its employees are being honored this year by the American Ambulance Association (AAA) with a Star of Life medal, the highest award that an emergency medical service worker can receive. Wendy Becofsky and Rebekah Garcia will be among the 90 EMS workers from around the country to receive the recognition at the Association’s 19th annual event held in Washington, D.C. June 11 – 13.

Wendy Becofsky has been with Mohawk for more than 30 years, not only developing Mohawk’s first in-house collections department, but also the company’s first front-end verification department. Wendy’s exceptional leadership skills led to her promotion to business office manager in 2004. Four years later, she was appointed as compliance officer for Mohawk. Wendy has held leadership roles in the American Ambulance Association (AAA) and the United New York Ambulance Network (UNYAN). She was the chairwoman of the AAA Medicare Regulatory Work Group and continues to be an active member of this group. In addition, she has been the Reimbursement Chairwoman for UNYAN since 2010.

Rebekah Garcia joined Mohawk Ambulance Service as an EMT following Stars of Life 2018several years as an Albany Medical Center ED patient care technician. In the three short years since joining Mohawk, Rebekah has come to embody the core spirit of the job. She challenged herself to complete her certificate of Paramedicine at Hudson Valley Community College. She now serves as a paramedic and is a well-respected field training officer for newer employees. Her exemplary work has earned her the company’s Distinguished Service Award.

“Wendy and Rebekah have proven to be exceptional leaders and role models, and have become invaluable members of our family,” said James P. McPartlon III, president of Mohawk Ambulance Service. “We are extremely proud of both of them and congratulate them on this special recognition and achievement.”

Becofsky and Garcia join 15 other Mohawk Ambulance servicemen and women who are Stars of Life recipients. Other past award winners include first responders who served following the September 11th attacks, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, and other national disasters.

AAA represents hundreds of ambulance services across the United States which provide emergency and non-emergency care and medical transportation to more than 75 percent of the U.S. population. The Association’s annual Stars of Life awards publicly recognize and celebrate the achievements of its members.

Mohawk Ambulance Service Hires Human Resources Generalist

We are pleased to announce the hiring of Alexandra Hennessy as Alexandra HennessyHuman Resources Generalist. In this position, she will be assisting Human Resources Director Ann DeVost with all incoming human resources inquires, recruitment and onboarding as well as assisting with employee relations and communications.

Hennessy has previously held human resources positions at UPS and Brown & Brown Insurance. She is excited to bring her energy and experience to her new role at Mohawk Ambulance.

Hennessy received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Le Moyne College in Syracuse.

Mohawk Ambulance Service Welcomes New Human Resources Director

Mohawk Ambulance Service is pleased to announce the hiring of Ann DeVost as Human Resource Director. In this position, she is responsible for all human resource functions within Mohawk Ambulance Services and will work closely with company leaders to manage human resources programs, provide consultation on strategic staffing plans, manage hiring, benefits and employee relations, and promote process improvement by building relationships and retaining employees.

Joining Mohawk Ambulance from Daughters of Sarah Ann DevostSenior Community, DeVost brings experience in employee recruitment and retention, staff development, conflict resolution, benefits and compensation, HR records management and policy development, strategic planning and more to her new role. Previously, she’s held human resources positions at Paychex Inc., TempurSealy International Inc., and CHA Consulting.

DeVost studied Human Services at Hudson Valley Community College and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Psychology from University at Albany.

Mohawk Ambulance Service Partners with Schenectady SEAT to Welcome Eight Students to its EMT Training Program

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Mohawk Ambulance Service recently began its Fall 2017 EMT Training Course with eight students accepted from Schenectady Social Enterprise and Training Center (SEAT). The SEAT Center provides education and training programs for underrepresented populations, businesses, and communities, with a strong focus on serving young adults, ages 16-24 years old. Mohawk Ambulance works with the SEAT Center as an employer partner to accept qualified candidates into their EMT training program.

Mohawk Ambulance Service has remained committed to providing education opportunities to those who may not otherwise have the means to pursue a career in the EMS industry. Last year, Mohawk introduced a free EMT training course as a way of recruiting new talent into the field. This program has yielded many successful graduates who now work with the company. This current training program is the third course Mohawk has offered to candidates free of charge.

The career preparation training that candidates receive through the SEAT Center is augmented by physical and mental soft skills tests. Those who make it through the preliminary screening are enrolled in Mohawk’s course which blends classroom learning with hands-on training and ride-alongs with Mohawk personnel in service. Students are also assigned a SEAT tutor with whom they work twice a week, helping them master time management and study skills, and ensuring they have the best opportunity to successfully complete the certificate program.

“Mohawk Ambulance Service established a thorough orientation program to ensure our high standards for excellent emergency medical care are consistently provided by all of our team members,” said James McPartlon, III, president, Mohawk Ambulance Service. “We are pleased to have this group of smart and talented individuals in our current EMT training program and taking the first steps toward providing assistance to those in need in our local communities.”

“This career path is attractive to many of our students for the advanced training it provides and the advancement opportunities available within the EMS field,” said Jennifer Lawrence, executive director of the SEAT Center. “We’ve found a great partnership with Mohawk Ambulance. The intensive program they offer provides a participatory learning environment that has shown to be absolutely beneficial to our students and their development as EMS professionals.”

Prior to this current course, the SEAT Center has placed 24 students in training with Mohawk Ambulance as part of the Center’s EMS career track. The center also offers a career track in the construction/energy efficiency field and will soon be introducing a program for students looking to pursue a career in the culinary arts.

Earlier this year, Mohawk’s Training Center staff received the “Educators of Excellence” Award presented by the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of the Hudson-Mohawk Valley (REMSCO).

Mohawk Ambulance Service Welcomes Two New Business Office Hires

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Mohawk Ambulance Service is pleased to announce the hiring of Amy Andolina as scheduling coordinator and Mechel Cellupica as verification specialist.

In her new position, Andolina is responsible for creating and managing current and future companywide personnel schedules, managing timecards, and monitoring staffing levels. She shares her time between the business office and throughout Mohawk’s service stations. Since joining the Mohawk Ambulance team, Andolina is learning new skills to add to her already impressive background.

As Verification Specialist, Cellupica is responsible for verifying all demographic and insurance information for new patients along with re-verifying and updating information on patients that have been transported in the past. She utilizes several database tools while working with hospital representatives and patients to obtain information. She also assigns transports to the appropriate biller based on payer class.

“We are thrilled to welcome both Amy and Mechel to the team,” said James P. Mc Partlon, III, president for Mohawk Ambulance. “They are both bringing years of knowledge and experience to Mohawk Ambulance Services.”

Originally from Buffalo, Andolina now resides in Clifton Park. Originally from Berkshire, Mass., Cellupica resides in Schenectady County.

Summer Celebration and Safety Day

July 31, 2017

Mohawk Ambulance Service partnered with the City School District of Albany to host the Summer Celebration and Safety Day on July 15 in Albany’s Krank Park. The day will featured a free picnic-style cookout and activities, face-painting, games and giveaways, and safety information and demonstrations from participating organizations giving tips on staying safe this summer season. Thank you to all the participating organizations and agencies who helped make this a successful event.
